Convolutionally Coded Hybrid Type-II ARQ on Rayleigh Fading Channels

In this paper, we propose a hybrid type-II Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) scheme based on optimized Rate Compatible Punctured Convolutional (RCPC) codes combined with simple repetition codes. The proposed scheme has the prospect to provide high throughput over Rayleigh fading and AWGN channels. In order to design this scheme, di erent schemes based on di erent coding strategies were introduced and compared, where each exhibits interesting properties. The suggested scheme integrates the favorable characteristics of all other schemes and therefore, provides considerably improved performance. Furthermore, optimized repetition codes were employed instead of simple repetition codes in the studied hybrid type-II ARQ schemes as another alternative. We illustrate that this choice only gives a minor di erence in the throughput performance.
